Concious Check-In Edition 4

Across the world’s oceans, a quiet revolution in small-ship exploration is taking place with Aqua Expeditions, superyachts converted into the moving luxury boutique hotels carrying you to some of the most remote and beautiful corners of the world.
With circa 15 luxurious double suites per ship, world class chefs creating incredible dining and impeccable but charismatic service delivered from a team that outnumbers the guests, the Aqua experience is spectacular in itself. Add to this their ability to reach incredible destinations unavailable to larger ships, the incredible activity program that includes off the beaten track nature, conservation and community experiences not available anywhere else and excellent diving facilities (in suitable destinations).
This year Aqua Expeditions unveils its newest vessel, Aqua Lares. Purpose-built for intimate voyaging and low-impact discovery, Aqua Lares extends the company’s reach into two strikingly different marine frontiers: the Indian Ocean between Seychelles & Tanzania and a polar adventure to the Arctic.
The 77m Ice-Breaker seamlessly blends European luxury furnishings with an edge of African craftmanship for a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary elegance.
With huge suites spread across 6 decks, plenty of areas for relaxation including a jacuzzi, indoor and outdoor dining areas, lounges, bars and a cinema room. For those that want to stay active even at sea, there is an outdoor fitness area whilst a small lower levels holds a massage suite, indoor jacuzzi and sauna.

Indian Ocean: Tanzania and the Seychelles
Along the curve of East Africa, Aqua Lares follows the pathways once shaped by monsoon winds and dhow trade routes.
These itineraries take guests into protected marine zones, vibrant reefs and island ecosystems where conservation efforts are ongoing and urgently needed.
With diving and snorkelling woven into daily rhythms, guests can encounter manta rays, sea turtles and other life sustained by the rich Indo-Pacific currents across the region.
Cultural visits and coastal stops add context, offering perspective on communities whose histories are deeply intertwined with the sea.

Svalbard and the Arctic Circle
When the season shifts northward, Aqua Lares moves into polar territory. As the first icebreaker super yacht to sail these waters and well equipped with a zodiac and kayaks to take you even closer to the Arctic action.
Here, the focus expands to iceberg alleys, glacial fjords, seabird teeming cliffs, walrus gatherings and even the possibility of polar bears along the ice edge.
Small numbers mean nimble access to remote landings, supported by specialist expedition guides and the most knowledgeable naturalists sharing scientific interpretation.

Aqua Expeditions, My Experience
Having previously sailed aboard another ship in the fleet, Aqua Blu in Indonesia, the signature of the brand is unmistakable and comes wholeheartedly recommended from me.
Ticking off one of my own bucket list experiences, diving the waters of the Rajah Ampat Islands, I learned just how well Aqua Expeditions combine luxury and comfort with curiosity and adventure.
The diving was the perfect blend of seamless service, safety and expertise. The service was that perfect blend of quiet hospitality that feels both hugely generous yet unforced Everyday included an element of learning, be that from the exceptional dive guides, the resident conservationists or the local projects and communities we visited.
The activity program exceeded my expectations with the activities above the water just as exhilarating as the ones below and all delivered in a way that felt truly immersive, using local expertise and facilities and a feeling of being welcomed with open arms to a destination through the respect that offered locally.
A well-considered future of ocean travel
Aqua Lares advances that philosophy into new waters.
Every voyage is structured to support responsible wildlife encounters, contribute to local economies, and leave the lightest possible wake.
Excursions prioritise learning, understanding and cultural exchange rather than momentum or box-ticking.
Whether navigating coral-ringed atolls in the Indian Ocean or edging toward the drifting ice of the far north, Aqua Lares reflects a thoughtful evolution in modern expedition travel.
These new destinations will appeal to travellers seeking the world’s blue spaces with a touch of luxury but overall looking to explore far flung shores with intention, curiosity and of course responsibility.
The Tanzania and East Africa route will appeal to the wildlife enthusiast and scuba diver alike maybe following on from a visit to the Serengeti or maybe ending with a few days in one of the Seychelles fabulous beach retreats.
The Arctic exploration would be the perfect experience for a keen photographer or a true adventurer ready to add one of the world’s most incredible locations to their own bucket list.
